Do we have to purchase the Marriage License first from the County Clerk?
No, there is no need for you to stand in line at the County Clerks office! We are authorized by the County Clerk of Los Angeles to issue your Confidential Marriage License, here at our Chapel. Again, you can get your marriage license and have your ceremony performed on the same day at I Thee Wed.

What is the difference between a Confidential Marriage License and a Public Marriage License?
Both are 100% legal! The difference is whether or not your marriage is a part of the public record. With either license, your marriage is recorded at the Office of the County Clerk and is official. With a Confidential License, this record can only be accessed by the couple; it prevents anyone but you from requesting information regarding your marriage certificate.

What type of documents do we need to obtain a marriage license?

We will be leaving town immediately after our Ceremony, will we have proof of our marriage the same day?
Yes. Whether you are traveling internationally or across the state line, you will have a legal document proving you are married. We will issue a copy of your marriage license. Our Notary Public will then file the paperwork on your behalf with the Los Angeles County Clerk's office. You will receive a certified copy of your license from the state, delivered to your home within 8 to 10 weeks. Please note, the State fee for this is $15 per copy. On the day of your wedding, please bring a check or money order (the state does not accept credit cards) made out to Los Angeles County Clerk and we will forward it on to the State for you with your license.

Yes. If you require your certified copy sooner than the standard 8 — 10 weeks, a rush may be placed on your order for a fee of $40.00 and you will receive your certified copy in 2 — 4 weeks. This service is offered by the County Clerk.

My fiancé was married before, but is now divorced. Do we need to provide any special paperwork?
Maybe. If you or your fiancé was previously married and has been legally divorced for more than two years, you do not need to bring any documentation. If the divorce occurred within the last two years, you will need to provide proof of divorce when you apply for your marriage license.

Do we need to bring witnesses?
No. If you are using a Confidential Marriage license, no witnesses are necessary. If you have already purchased a Public License from the County Clerk, two witnesses to the ceremony are required. If you do not have someone you would like to act as a witness, I Thee Wed will provide witnesses for you.
